Belly Fat and Water Bottles

Wondering why you’re having a hard time losing that stubborn belly fat? One reason could be that your reusable water bottle isn’t BPA free. BPA is contained in many plastic (and aluminum! Didja know that?) containers.
Persistent organic pollutants (POPs) found in many plastic containers (and foods and beauty and personal care items) contain chemicals that can full-on disrupt your hormones. These chemicals are often called obesogens (foreign chemical compounds that disrupt normal development and balance of lipid metabolism, which in some cases, can lead to obesity) and can interfere with the healthy process of your metabolism, which, in turn, can cause extra fat around the abdomen.
BPA Free

Look for BPA-Free stickers/notes on your products

So, be sure to check your labels to ensure you are choosing BPA-free products. Use glass containers or pick up one of these reusable water bottles from Tupperware.

PS – the large Tupperware bottles also hold a full bottle of wine.  😛

“Small Change, Big Gain”

Last month I wrote a post on my Top 5 Wellness Favorites.  Included in that post, was mention of the company Elysium Health.  Elysium is all about the small, daily habits that lead to a healthier and better life.  And since my post, the team at Elysium has come up with a great infographic and included quotes from some wellness sites – MINE INCLUDED.  (That’s me at the bottom – NSFitBitch.)

Thank you Elysium for providing this great infographic and for including my post.

Q & A

I often hear or see questions about health and fitness and magic tricks to lose weight so I thought I’d begin incorporating some of the questions into posts.  The following Q&A is from Jillian Michaels’ website*.

Jillian Michaels

Not really, but there are foods that contain fewer calories than the body uses to digest them. Therefore, when you eat these foods (cruciferous veggies, leafy greens, and so forth), you’re helping create a calorie deficit.

That said, there are also certain foods that will crank up your metabolism by releasing the right hormones. Protein will release more human growth hormone. Foods with selenium and zinc will support a healthy thyroid. You can boost your metabolic rate by eating clean, whole, fresh foods and avoiding processed foods and chemicals. But there is no food that will magically burn off fat. You have to get off your butt and get moving!

*My previous post on Jillian Michaels may read like a disclaimer but I really am a fan of hers.  As mentioned in the last post, she offers a lot of information and has great workouts.  And I find her motivating.  I read her dailies and find them informative and, therefore, am happy to refer to some of the articles she provides on occasion.
