health fitness
I have come to the conclusion that not everybody wants to be fit and healthy.  I can’t even comprehend how that even makes sense!  I guess I’m stumped because it doesn’t….make sense, that is.

I have people telling me almost daily that they want to: lose weight, lose their pooch, improve their cardio, become more active, lead a healthier life.   I invite them to come to classes or the gym, I offer to give them tips or be their workout buddy/voice of reason, I offer to design fitness plans….etc., etc., etc.   And you know what?  Nada.  No effort on their part.  None of them show up for any of the classes, no one joins me at the gym, and I still see fries and donuts being shoved in their respective faces all the darn time.
SO.FRUSTRATED!!

Listen, I don’t expect everyone to follow the same path as me and fall in love with health and fitness the way I have.  But for the love of your own health put some friggin’ effort into it.

What really ticks me is when some of these people want advice and take up my time while I dole it out – or take the time to design a program for them – and then don’t bother.  Same as when I offer them to attend a class for free (I still have to cover my rental fee but want to get them out to try it) and then they just don’t bother to show up.   Rude!  That class space could have been set aside for a paying client.

I’m to the point where I’m about done being a nice guy!  (Just kidding, I’m too nice for that.)

I don’t mind helping people out.  In fact, I enjoy it.  But don’t waste my time.  Once again, there’s no miracle for instant weight loss.  You HAVE to work for it.  And again, being healthy doesn’t mean being thin.   There are plenty of people who are super duper healthy and not really thin.  And there are tons of thin people who are totally not healthy (ie. The girl at my gym who has a cigarette before and after every workout.  And coughs through every cardio exercise.  Derrr!!).
And each and every time you work out you become a little healthier.  And each and every time your body will thank you for it.

So, do yourself the favor – commit to changing your lifestyle, commit to a healthier lifestyle and a fitter you.  Become emotionally involved in your workouts.  Do this for yourself.  You deserve it.

And if you know you’re not ready to work for it or not willing to make the effort….be honest with your coach/instructor/nutritionist/buddy and don’t waste the time.

Another Chapter

I am very excited.  VERY VERY EXCITED!!

I signed up today for my next course – The Nutrition and Weight Loss Specialist certification thru CanFitPro.  This is something I’ve been wanting to do for a while now.  It’s something that’s important to me and I’m really doing it for my own growth, education, and knowledge….but I’m not gonna lie…earning a little extra cash from it will be nice too.

I can’t wait to blast this banner:

I’m really looking forward to this next chapter.  My fitness instructor got this certification this past year and she tells me there is so much to learn and it’s incredibly interesting.  I really can’t wait.

And fortunately, I don’t have to.  I should be able to access the online portion of the course as early as tomorrow so I will be all over that!  Color this girl happy!

Chocolate Recovery

Yesterday was my first day to myself and to relax in weeks.  I stayed home all day. I avoided the hustle and bustle of sale shoppers and basically vegged out all day on my couch.  Okay, okay, I did do a cardio yoga workout and had a visit from my parents, but aside from that I vegged out on my couch for most of the day.

After a while I got pretty bored – I’m not used to having this much down time – and I ate.  I ate a lot of chocolate.  I mean, not hordes of it but more chocolate than I usually would eat.

ahhh....chocolate heaven

ahhh….chocolate heaven

I inherited my chocoholism from my dad….there are times when I can go weeks or months without a piece, but then there are times when I’m rooting through the cupboards hoping for a stash.

And with Christmas just a few days behind us the chocolate is bountiful.  So today I’ve sworn myself off chocolate.  I have a healthy balanced lunch packed for the work day, a yummy, mouth-watering berry smoothie waiting to be guzzled this morning, and after teaching boot camp class tonight I’ll find something replenishing for a late dinner.

See…I am human and I like to indulge.  It’s fine to indulge.  As long as our indulgences don’t happen every day or all day long.  I’m more than happy to live a little.  It’s going to make me work harder tonight and eat healthier today.

New Year, New You

Hope everyone is enjoying their holidays.

We’re coming up to the start of a new year and I’m sure a ton of you, like me, are going to commit to some New Year Resolutions.

To kick off the new year I’m doubling up on a challenge and posting below the 30 Days Abs and Squat Challenge.

It seems that the 30 Day Ab Challenge and the 30 Day Squat Challenge have been two of the most popular challenges and the most searched….so, badonkadonk!  This challenge has them both.

As always, this challenge can be done on its own or as part of your regular workout regime.  Just be sure to take your rest days.

Saturday Workout

It’s Saturday!  It’s the weekend!  I’m sleeping in past 7!!!  (Yay!)  And it’s just a few days ’til Christmas.

I am hosting a Christmas party this evening.  I have a hundred and one things to do today before I even start to get ready for tonight, but I’m going to make sure I get a great workout in in spite of my crazy day.

I know that it’s the time of year when things are bananas and we just seem to run out of time to get everything amid the hustle and bustle, but believe me, you can find the time for even a mini-workout.

Thinking

Do yourself the favor and take a few minutes for yourself.  Try and fit in a little workout today.  Exercise is a great way to release stress and even 5 or 10 minutes can change your entire mood and outlook resulting in a more productive day.

Remember, you’re worth it.

Here’s a great little workout to get you started.  Do it once, twice, three times.  Whatever your pleasure.

The BEST Salad I’ve Ever Had

OhEmGee!  There are 10 days ’til Christmas!  Can you believe it?

I have been running around like a mad woman trying to get my shopping and wrapping and baking in. And getting my house party-ready, on top of working, teaching, and participating.  It’s hectic and I’m tired.

The last few days I’ve been taking some time to get some of the treats made – I have batches of goodies made for my party this upcoming weekend, for Christmas dinners, for work (I’m now the favorite) and for my boyfriend’s work.

I’m being careful not to sample or lick the spoons.  And on top of that I made the best salad the other night for our dinner.  It was so good that my boyfriend took a big bowlful to work with him the next day as I did today.  AND after my incredibly exhausting class tonight I was ecstatic to come home and stuff my face with it again.

The original recipe is HERE.  I’ve omitted the nuts and seeds and the feta….and I didn’t put any dressing on it.  It is still delicious and it’s so pretty.

I will definitely be eating this salad often.  I just can’t get enough.  And the pomegranate just adds that little extra pizzazz.  It’s like a sweet little festive decoration.

See?  It’s still easy to eat healthy during the holidays.

I Want to be THAT Person

When I first began my weight loss journey those years back it was for just that – weight loss.  Once I began losing the extra weight I’d gained I became more focused on the fitness and healthy living.  And once I focused on those aspects I became inspired by other people while on their journeys.

Sir RichardMy fitness and healthy living is an endless journey.  I continue to learn and educate myself so that I can educate others.  I want to be the inspiration to others.

Even while I (continue) to struggle with my ongoing demons I want to be the person to give others a little push; to compliment and encourage and motivate.  I want to inspire.

And truth is, you all inspire me.  I find inspiration every single day.  From the ladies I see power walking on their lunch breaks to my office mate kayaking and hiking on the weekends, to my boyfriend and his recent weight loss and incredible smoothies to the new girls in my classes.  Inspiration is everywhere I look.  I hope you see it too.
